OF BIBLE-

authentic SPEAKING

IN TONGUES GIVEN?

THE MESSAGE

In Reference To

>>Mark 16:17

In Greek, what has been translated “them who believe” in many translations is “tois pisteusasin” (in the aorist tense)

which ought to have been
“them who have believed”

as we will rightly find in The NAB, NASB, RYRIE and DARBY versions so far as i've come across.

(IF ONLY ALL THE BIBLE SCHOLARS AND TRANSLATORS AND GREEK GRAMMARIANS

WILL MEET and SETTLE

THE MATTER OF TENSES IN THE NEW COVENANT!)

It ought to refer ONLY to
them who have believed THEN,

~~NOT TO INCLUDE~~ THEM WHO BELIEVED after them,

but to them only who have believed and who lived

during the time when THE New COVENANT was not yet in existence as we have IT now.

The word translated “new” in the expression “they shall speak new tongues or languages” is supposedly “kainas” (kainee, singular, feminine)

which means new as

compared
to the former,
different from each other
in the matter of quality.

This is in contrast to supposedly another Greek word meaning “new” neas, (nea, feminine),

which would indicate the same language they were already speaking, but coming at a later time.

The reference here is to other
languages, foreign to
the individual speaking them

but native or understood by their ethnic group hearers.

What THE LORD actually promised them who had then believed prior to THE New COVENANT as we have it now(!)

was that they were going
to speak in foreign languages
that they had not learned.

There were (only) THREE PARTICULAR OCCASIONS THIS PROMISE WAS FULFILLED

lending truth to >>Mark 16:20, “then the disciples went out and preached everywhere,

and THE LORD worked with them,

and confirmed HIS words by the signs that accompanied it.”

Note the past tense of went out, preached, worked, and confirmed

and as also later (chronologically and cohesively) further supported by the past tense “was confirmed” and “testified”

in >>Hebrews 2:3-4.

1. Among the Jews

In Jerusalem on that particular Pentecost Day of A.D. 33,

>>Acts of The Holy Spirit Chapter 2:4-11,

the outpouring of The Holy Spirit.

>>Verse 4 says, “And all (each one, jointly and severally – from the Greek word supposedly NAPANTES) were filled with

(epleestheesan, first passive aorist, indicating that this in-filling took place at a particular time

as a result of the energy of someone else) ---- The Holy Spirit

and they began to speak in other (different from their own as expressed by the Greek word allegedly METERAIS) tongues

(ethnic language, refer to >>verse 8-11) as The Spirit enabled them.”

The apostles spoke to
The Jews
of various nationalities
gathered in Jerusalem
that particular day

--- in the languages native
to their hearers.

They were understood immediately

~~without~~ the necessity of interpreters.

Apparently, it was an on-the-spot enablement by The Holy Spirit

and not a permanent acquisition of the knowledge of a new language or languages on the part of the apostles,

the antecedent of the theys and thems in >>verses 1, 2, 3 and 4

as evidenced by the word apostles

as the last word prior to Chapter 2:1.

All of them who received the baptism with The Holy Spirit on that particular day were speaking in tongues (>>Acts 2:4).

All who were speaking
on that occasion were
men from Galilee and
the twelve apostles were
strictly Galileans
(>>Acts 2:7).

The real purpose for this promised baptism with The Holy Spirit were:

1. It saturated the apostles with the power

to be the official witnesses of THE CHRIST

(>>Acts 1:8; >>2:31; >>4:33).

2. It directed the apostles into all truths

as they speak of the things

that finally became part of what we have now(!)

as THE NEW COVENANT.

It directed them into all truths

that were eventually written into what is now(!)

THE NEW COVENANT

by bringing all the things to their remembrance (>>John 14:26; >>16:13).

3. It enabled the apostles to do

extraordinary measure of special signs and wonders

confirming the truth they preached

(>>Acts 2:43, >>5:12; >>Hebrews 2:3-4).

4. It made possible for these apostles who were all unlearned men

to speak in languages of nationalities

they had not learned before

enabling them to carry out the great commission

(>>Acts 2:4-11; >>Matthew 28:19-20)

reaping 3,000 souls for THE LORD that day alone!

5. It enabled the apostles

to confer the extraordinary gifts

of The Holy Spirit by the laying on of their hands

(>>Acts 8:14-18; >>Hebrews 2:3-4).

In the case of Paul, refer to

>>1st Corinthians 15:7-9; >>2nd Corinthians 11:5, >>12:12; >>Galatians 1:1, >>1:11-24.

*There was
only one
such Pentecost Day
of A.D. 33 and
only one
such manifestation in
the lives of those
believers in Jerusalem.

2. Among the Gentiles

In Caesarea, in the household of Cornelius

(>>Acts 10:44-46; >>11:13-15)

The coming of
The Holy Spirit
into the world among
The Jews

was not a repeated occurrence but

a one-time happening which occurred on that Pentecost Day of A.D. 33,

seen and heard by all present in Jerusalem then.

Peter could not have said as recorded in >>Acts 11:15

and been reminded of the original promise of the baptism with The Holy Spirit on him and his fellow apostles

(>>Acts 11:15-17, >>1:1-5).

Certainly, the coming of
The Holy Spirit
on the household of
Cornelius accompanied
with tongue-speaking

~~was not to give them~~ power to be ~~apostles~~

(official witnesses with direct commission from GOD!)

as others have been selected for this purpose

(>>Acts 1:21-22; >>1st Corinthians 15:7)

The actual purpose of this visible and audible manifestation of The Holy Spirit

was to prove beyond doubt to Peter and to all believers then,

that the Gentiles also
were proper recipients of
THE GOSPEL

(>>John 10:16; >>Ephesians 2:11-16) and

that THE GOSPEL

should thereafter be preached to The Gentiles also

(>>Acts 10:45-47, >>11:17-18)

THE CHRIST died
once and for all

but bound by Jewish thought ---- they as a nation were alone as a nation to the exclusion of all The Gentile nations' every individual ---- as "GOD's people"

the apostles and disciples even 8 years after that particular Pentecost Day of A.D. 33

had preached only to The Jews.

Peter’s vision proved
to him that he was not
to discriminate any one

(>>Acts 10:9-16, 28, 34-35)

The Holy Spirit was to be
poured out on all flesh ---
Jews and Gentiles
individually

(>>Acts 2:17; >>10:45; >>11:15-17)

be it in the ordinary measure upon our baptism

or the extraordinary measure upon the laying on of apostolic and not just anybody’s hands.

In their case here,
the Gentile converts to

THE LORDSHIP & THE
CHRISTHOOD of JESUS

spoke in tongues
magnifying GOD

>>Acts 10:46

They were tongues or
utterances other than the one
they had been speaking up till
that moment The Holy Spirit
fell upon them.

Peter and his companions must have understood the languages

for they recognized that they “magnified GOD.”

Had they been unintelligible utterances as was observed in the problematic church in Corinth later on

Peter and his companions would have needed an interpreter, but no such person was involved!

When The Church in Corinth
uttered or spoke in tongues

Paul required them an interpreter

who were to give their hearers the substance

of what they were speaking

in a language

that they could understand.

This was the only way Paul
would condone such practice

that was why he said

he would rather speak five words with his understanding

than in ten thousand words in an unknown tongue

as the STILL babes in THE CHRIST at Corinth spoke THEN.

3. Among those who have acquainted themselves with THE CHRIST but not as yet belonging to THE CHRIST.

As recorded in >>Acts 19, it took place in Ephesus.

These people were
disciples of John the Baptist

who constituted themselves
into a sect

(without us knowing, we may have become members of a sect, if the group we belong to becomes an exclusivist group!)

They may have been deficiently instructed by Apollos

who himself needed to be guided to a full understanding of THE GOSPEL

(>>Acts 18:24-26)

They were still ignorant
thus far of
THE already implemented
PLAN of THE CHRIST

(>>Acts 19:4).

They didn’t know that effective that Pentecost Day of A.D. 33

the then baptism of repentance administered by John

was already to be
superseded with our
obedience

to the {two} separate
commands

{1} >>> to repent and

{2} >>> be baptized

>>> FOR THE summary

FORGIVENESS OF ALL
OUR SINNINGS
>>Acts 2:38

(since then and until now

after THE CHRIST died because we [JEWS & GENTILES]

are saved by HIS death)

>>Hebrews 10:10

which we have to obey by GOD’s grace

through >>> THE FAITH in THE LORDSHIP & THE CHRISTHOOD of JESUS

But since it is through
The one Holy Spirit
that we all are baptized
into The one Body of
THE CHRIST

(>>1st Corinthians 12:13)

IRREGARDLESS of whether we are ~~without~~ religion

but have come to know and believe in the salvation work of THE LORD JESUS THE CHRIST

to include us Catholics, Pentecostals, Baptists, Protestants or every one who belongs to any of these denominations or sects for that matter

as this John the Baptist followers have become

---- we have to be baptized

with this ONE BAPTISM

(>>Ephesians 4:5)

as commanded in the great commission

>>Matthew 28:18-20

IF we are to truly belong to
THE CHRIST

---- IF we are to be indwelt

by The Holy Spirit.

(>>Acts 2:38)

In order to prove to them what real regenerating faith is ---

GOD not only gave them the indwelling of The Holy Spirit

but also the manifestation of tongue speaking

and prophesying after Paul (an Apostle)

laid his hands on them.

It was the specific purpose
of GOD to be accomplished

to this specially

situated group of people who

know JESUS but has
not yet belong

to HIM, because they did
not as yet have

the sealing resulting from
the indwelling of
THE HOLY SPIRIT in them
>>2nd Corinthians 1:22

which, because THE WORD of GOD is living and active

even till today (>>Hebrews 4:12)

applies to us all who are in
these different
denominations.

We may have been baptized in exactly the same mode as prescribed in THE BIBLE;

but, if the purpose was to become a member of their group or be given a Christian name or anything else

but one's summary
forgiveness of
all his/her sinnings

(spoken of one's baptism as an
initial rite --- to be followed each time we sin
with >>1st John 1:9)

we have to be “re-baptized” for such purpose

and/or prescribed mode as the case maybe

(>>Acts 18:24 to 19:5)

even if we have done great things for THE LORD already!!!

This is a specific example for
many of us to follow as we
find ourselves similarly
situated in those organized
churches around.

This group of disciples in Ephesus referred themselves in all sincerity, in all probability as Christians

yet like many who refer to themselves as Christians in these days of ours

they have not really belonged to and are not really wearing THE CHRIST (>>Galatians 3:27) as yet!!!

With pride --- they call themselves Pentecostals, Baptists, Protestants, Adventists, Catholics, etc., but

it is only our kindest accommodation that we tolerate them

when they insist on being called “Pentecostal ~~Christians~~, Baptist ~~Christians~~, Methodist ~~Christians~~, Catholic ~~Christians~~, ~~etc~~…”

The fact is, we can only be
PLAIN CHRISTIANS

not any other, if we are to be IN THE CHRIST

CALLED-OUT to be HIS REDEEMED

under and continuingly responding to HIS LORDSHIP,REDEEMERSHIP, KINGSHIP, CHIEF-PRIESTHOOD over us and HIS JUDGMENTS while still in this world!

And HE will continue "to do these greater things" as our BOSS, OWNER, COMMANDER, SAVIOUR, KING, CHIEF-PRIEST, JUDGE, even now.... to them WHO ARE REALLY CALLED OUT of this world but has not as yet HEEDED THAT CALL

as to form part of THE BODY
of THE CHRIST by getting
themselves subjected to
THE WORD OF GOD

--- not question THE WORD of GOD.

And who can doubt this!!!!

--- “All scriptures is GOD-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness so that the man of GOD may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” --- >>2nd Timothy 3:16-17.

Here in this particular
group of
sect-or-denomination-freed
followers

we notice it was by Paul’s laying on of his hands

that they spoke in tongues and prophesied

as the way of The Holy Spirit
authenticating
their righteous act
of submission to GOD’s will

vis-à-vis their sincere beliefs prior.

Imagine, the only difference in their 2 baptisms was THE FORGIVENESS OF (their) SINNINGS as to that specific purpose

within themselves upon their obeying the initiatory act

and on the outside by the utterance of such purpose by the administrator.

Yes, during those times
when THE NEW TESTAMENT
was not as yet the whole
written one as
we have it now, there was
need
for such authentication.

As we observe beyond doubt, these tongues-speaking involved specific groups of people:

1. Jews—typifying them LONG SPIRITUALLY SICK because OF and despite THEIR RELIGION;

2. Gentiles --- typifying them without previous involvement in religion and thus totally WORLDLY & DEVOID of SPIRITUALITY; and

3. John the Baptist’s disciples --- typifying THOSE WHO SHIFTED TO A NEW RELIGION, or have been converted merely from one religion to another --- and still caught and living in THE WORLD OF RELIGIONS!

In all these 3 groups, the
particular circumstance was
when some of them in
their respective groups

were first brought into
THE KINGDOM of GOD

and in each of these instances

when tongues were spoken and uttered

one or more apostles were present.

To them who lead this particular
activity of tongue speaking
these days

could they not be one of “those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with (the apostles)

in the things they boast about”

(>>2nd Corinthians 11:11)?

The occasions on which the speaking in tongues occurred as per promise in >>Mark 16:17 were very special.

There is no doubt that The Holy Spirit could visit any group today in the same manner for He is sovereign.

But apparently, it is not part of His plan

as HE is doing
“greater things”
THE CHRIST promised
in >>John 14:11-12.

I suppose we are not to ask GOD

(as many do at present!)

to give a repeat performance of the past

simply because that’s what we think HE ought to do.

In fact, we are becoming
more and more immature by
our asking for miracles
to confirm again
and again

what has been confirmed by GOD

and already written down & well-circulated at that ---- NOW(!)

for our guidance TO SALVATION!

Just because GOD is the same yesterday, today and forever

does not mean HE does not change HIS PROGRAM OF WORK

from one application and/or situation to another.

JESUS was born under the law of Moses (>>Galatians 4:4)

and lived under The Law.

HE fulfilled it (>>Matthew 5:17-18)

“took it out of the way

and gave us the new and better Law”

(>>Hebrews 8:6, >>9:15)

“HE sets aside the first to establish the second and by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of THE CHRIST once for all.” --- >>Hebrews 10:9-10

“Having cancelled the written code with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us, HE took it away, nailing it to the cross”. --- >>Colossians 2:14

HIS death on the cross
put an end

to The Old Covenant
and gave way

to THE NEW COVENANT

which went into effect
officially

on Pentecost Day, A.D. 33

when in Jerusalem THE GOSPEL was first preached as a fact

heard, believed and obeyed by some 3000 souls

>>Acts 2:32-41

Truly, a written will
is not in force

~~is not~~ in effect

until after

the one who made
it had died.

>>Hebrews 9:16-17

Yes, those signs and wonders were to serve as confirmation to the truths

which were possibly taught only verbally

by those Christians then

prior to THE WRITTEN already NEW COVENANT

that we have now(!)

These days, we have
no less than

THE INDWELLING OF
The Holy Spirit

THE OFFICIAL WARRANTY

and THE New COVENANT
Written & Well-
Circulated already

as THE OFFICIAL RECEIPT
to believe and obey (inclusive)

and together these serve as GOD’s OFFICIAL WARRANTY

for OUR ETERNAL SECURITY

and we have no more need

for signs and wonders because GOD’s Official Receipt is already there

as we walk in

in THE LORDSHIP & THE
CHRISTHOOD of JESUS

and ~~not by sight~~ of miracles
