GUIDE TO
OVERCOMING
EVERY TEMPTATION
>>GENESIS 39: 5-23
1. Do not be complacent about places because there you can meet temptations.
- Joseph was made overseer in the house
- where temptation was. (v. 5)
- Joseph was handsome;
- naturally it attracted temptation. (vs. 6 and 7)
- “Lie with me”
- – that’s when temptation started to work out in Joseph (v. 7)
- Joseph immediately refused. (v. 8)
5. Do not fall into the opportunity temptation came with.
- “There is none greater in this house than I.... ” (v. 9)
6. Determine what is morally right.
- “he has withheld nothing from me except you because you are his wife.” (v. 9)
7. Remember giving way to temptation is against God.
- “How then can I do this great evil, and sin against GOD! (v. 9)
8. Do not be worn out by the recurring efforts of temptation. Do not listen; more so, if temptation comes back and forth. (v. 10)
9. If temptation comes back and forth with increased determination, flee from it. Do not think of any other concern, flee from temptation. (vs. 11 and 13)
10. Maintain character; do not be carried away by having to protect your reputation. Do not mind the alleged evidence and get tempted to go and see temptation again. It will just count for what people may have to say. It is what God has seen that counts! ( vs. 14 - 23)
1 "No temptation has overtaken you
2 but such as is common to man;
3 and GOD is faithful,
4 HE will not allow you to be tempted
5 beyond what you are able to cope with,
6 but with the temptation
.... will provide you the way of escape also,
7 that you may be able to endure it."
