T#039 WHAT MATTHEW 9:10-17 SAYS TO ALL CHURCHES, KINDS OF BAPTISTS & ALL RELIGIONISTS / DENOMINATIONALISTS



WHAT
>>MATTHEW 9:10-17

 SPECIFICALLY

 SAYS TO 
ALL KINDS OF

 BAPTISTS
& ALL RELIGIONISTS /
DENOMINATIONALISTS!


>>Verses 10-13
  • record THE WAY-THE LORD dealt with
  • the doctrinal problems of THE PHARISEES
  • with THEIR Old Testament followers.

>>Verses 14-17
  • record THE WAY-THE LORD dealt with
  • the doctrinal questions
  • of some OF THOSE WHO FOLLOWED John The Baptist.

Not having been dealt

 with by them as they

 ought to have been,

  • they have unknowingly gotten themselves

into another religion different

  • from that they came from.

UNDENIABLY,
differing doctrines
bring about
different religions.

  • John THE BAPTIST’s MISSION
  • was to (as it did to some blessed ones!)
  • end up the old religion – Judaism and
  • get started THE NEW HUMANITY
  • under THE LORDSHIP & THE CHRISTHOOD of JESUS

henceforth to include
The GENTILES as well !!!!

  • In fact, he was made to begin his mission
  • outside of where RELIGIONS were
  • --- in the wilderness (>>Matthew 3:1).
  • John THE BAPTIST was born a priest (>>Luke 1:5, >>13) under Judaism
  • According to their regulations
  • he should have worn priestly garments
  • which were made mainly of fine linen
  • (>>Exodus 28:4, >>40-41; >>Leviticus 6:10; >>Ezekiel 44:17-18)
  • He should have had for his food
  • flour and meat from the sacrifices offered to THE LORD GOD
  • by HIS people then
  • ---- The Hebrew Nation (only)
  • ---- at that particular period in time.
  • (>>Leviticus 2:1-3, >>6:16-18; >>25-26; >>7:31-34).

However, John had
for himself what were
otherwise, as The Holy Spirit
found fit for him ----

 as recorded in
>>Matthew 3:4.


  • John’s MISSION was
  • to introduce THE CHRIST
  • and consequently produce CHRISTIANITY

in them individually
still in THEIR old RELIGION (Judaism)

  • that THE CHRIST might become
  • their REDEEMER, their KING, their CHIEF-PRIEST, their JUDGE
  • their LORD---- OWNER, DIRECT BOSS & COMMANDER
  • their LIFE, and their ALL
  • ....... together with The Gentiles on the individual basis!!!

ALL OF John
THE BAPTIST's
converts then

  • ought to have been CONVERTED TO THE CHRIST
  • and not to other sets of beliefs, rules, or other religions
  • such as some of them have become
  • advocates of and members of and are even very proud
  • proclaiming themselves in unison
  • as BAPTISTS in our time
  • ..... yet pre-fixed by all other names
  • BIBLE, CONSERVATIVE, FIRST, Pre-TRIB, 7th DAY, countless number of THEM as to make even the original of THE BAPTISTS --- PRIMITIVE BAPTISTS
  • reveal themselves fully DENOMINATIONALISTS
  • as THEY really are undeniably severally different from one another.

HAVING FOR themselves

a religion already

 prior to John’s mission

  • some of them could not forget their old religions’ practices and traditions.
  • They were not convinced enough that the rituals and practices
  • The Pharisees of their old religion
  • specialized in
  • were to be done away with and
  • REPLACED WITH THE CHRIST HIMSELF
  • THE PERSON, the METHODOLOGY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE!
  • (>>John 14:6)

Without their knowing,

 by their mixing

THE PERSON of THE CHRIST

  • with sets of creeds and practices
  • they have established another religion
  • and hybrids thereof.

To do something in behalf of
and in the name of A GROUP

  • even as they forcefully claim
  • they are "CHRIST-CENTERED" in their pronouncements
  • is to be merely RELIGIOUS and sectarian.

Even by their doing
things they claim scriptural
and fundamental

  • as A GROUP WITH A BIBLICAL NAME ---
  • denominationalists inescapably and
  • in the truest sense lack THE INDWELLING
  • of GOD HIMSELF in them
  • and are merely religious and not at all spiritual!

Their conversion,

 in hard reality,

 was merely from
one religion
to another.

  • They are still very sadly
  • very much in THE WORLD of RELIGIONS
  • and sick with RELIGION
  • and so they have the need

for THE CHRIST

 as their PHYSICIAN!

  • Both the disciples of John THE BAPTIST
  • ------- (the NEWCOMERS to the then new BAPTIST RELIGION)
and
  • they who remained disciples to THE PHARISEES
  • (the OLD-TIMERS in their JEWish-as-a-NATION-RELIGION)
  • ritually fasted much

but
were unknowingly without
THE CHRIST,
both being still in religion.


  • Both RELIGIONISTS
  • despised THE true and real DISCIPLES of THE CHRIST
  • (they who understood in full
  • John THE BAPTIST’s MISSION)
  • who actually lived in THE CHRIST’s presence
  • and have THE CHRIST with them (>>verse 14).

The OLD-TIMERS in their
JEWish-as-a-NATION
RELIGION


  • were bothered by THE CHRIST’s making HIS PERSON
  • a companion of tax collectors and sinners
  • whom their group openly and consistently condemned (>>verse 11).

The fasting NEWCOMERS in
their new RELIGION


  • were also troubled by the feasting of THE CHRIST and HIS convert-disciples (>>verse 14)
  • Oh, how true of all religionists even unto our days in their separatists’ stand.
The reference “Children of
the bride chamber” is what
THE LORD JESUS HIMSELF
gave HIS DISCIPLES
WHO HE did not require
to fast
(>>verse 15).

 It did not refer to
the disciples of John
THE BAPTIST
who even got rebuked here.

 Notice very clearly
the 3 kinds of DISCIPLES
mentioned
in >>verse 14:

  • *** John’s DISCIPLES,
  • *** THOSE WHO REMAINED STEADFAST to the OLD COVENANT---under and including The Pharisees, and
  • *** The DISCIPLES converted to THE CHRIST WHOM JESUS DID NOT REQUIRE TO FAST because HE WAS STILL AROUND AND with THEM.

True to being given charge

 for THE CONVERSION
to THE CHRIST for them who

 were following
The Old Covenant
under The Pharisees

---- JohntTHE BAPTIST
  • never intended to make a religious group out of them for himself
  • because he was GOD’s instrument for them
  • to GET CONVERTED to THE CHRIST. 
  • John’s disciples
  • (aptly referring to some of them who followed John The Baptist
  • BUT who did not end up CONVERTED to THE CHRIST
  • and instead ended up with a new religion of their own)
  • wrongly fasted
  • much in fact, while THE BRIDEGROOM
  • was still with them physically!
  • THE CHRIST’s DISCIPLES were right
  • in feasting with HIM ---- THE BRIDEGROOM
  • while HE was with them physically.

In dealing with them
who are very sick
because of their long
stay in RELIGION

  • --- THE LORD JESUS presented HIMSELF
  • as THE PHYSICIAN
  • --- to heal them in & from their religion (>>verse 12).

In dealing with
the fasting disciples
of John THE BAPTIST,
to them
in their new religion

  • --- (not yet very sick with it
  • but .... clearly short in relationship with HIM
  • as to become simply DISCIPLES of THE CHRIST
  • instead of Baptists and Denominationalists)
  • --- HE revealed HIMSELF as THE BRIDEGROOM.
  • John The Baptist also earlier told his disciples
  • that THE CHRIST was THE BRIDEGROOM
  • and they are to be HIS future bride in >>John 3:25-29.
  • THE CHRIST heals HIS sick
  • --- (due to their long stay in religion)
  • as their PHYSICIAN,
  • makes them who have not yet become
  • so corrupted by their new religion
  • children of the bride chamber and eventually
  • makes ALL HIS OVERCOMING-DISCIPLES
  • (distinct and separate from those who blindly remain
  • involved with the different religions' wrong teachings & practices
  • ---- refer to >>verse 14 again),

in order to later
become HIS BRIDE

@ HIS 2nd Coming ----

as to individually
undergo before
HIS coming

 those judgments
spoken of
 in >>1st Peter 4:17.

  • All to-be disciples of THE CHRIST
  • ought to appropriate HIM and HIS PERSON
  • as their PHYSICIAN for the recovery of their lives
  • from their long practice of religion
  • and thereafter as their BRIDEGROOM

knowing HIM and growing
in HIS knowledge & love


  • to CORRECT that “personal relationship kind” those denominationalists are advocating wrongly through their varied ministries
  • while we all await and cooperate in HIS sanctifying us
  • to be HIS Unblemished Bride (>>Ephesians 5:27) by then!

The question of
John’s disciples
not ending up as
THE CHRIST’s
OVERCOMING-disciples

  • ---- (WE all ought to be irregardless
  • of from whose LEADERSHIP we have earlier come from)
IF WE ARE TO BE
HIS BRIDE WHEN
HE COMES BACK!

  • ---- is due to those behaviors and teachings
  • of those leaders in those ORGANIZATIONS then and now(!)
  • ....... the very root of ALL religions!!!!
  • The same is true of the question of The Pharisees ------- what doctrines to teach their followers!

However, THE LORD
JESUS answered
both of them,
not with another
doctrine
nor doctrines, but with

THE PERSON ----
THE BRIDGEGROOM
to the former

 and

 THE PHYSICIAN
to the latter.

  • Religionists, denominationalists, Nicolaitans, pastors, ministers, priests, and their staunch supporters always have zealous care for what they teach with their DOCTRINAL WHYs!!!
  • THE CHRIST cares for HIS PERSON
  • and THE PERSONS of HIS OVERCOMING-DISCIPLES
  • who then did not have to fast in their joy being together
  • while HE was with them physically.
  • Those of us who have to become
  • THE CHRIST’s DISCIPLES
  • after that Pentecost Day of A.D. 33
  • ---- after THE CHRIST was first preached as our LORD and THE CHRIST (>>Acts 2:14-36)
  • are not to be considered in error when we fast (>>Acts 13:2-3, >>14:23)
  • but, under this kind of attitude and circumstance:
  • to fast is not with purpose to refrain from eating.
  • It is being unable to eat because of being desperately burdened to pray for certain things undisturbed in such duration.
  • It makes discerning the message through our spirit (human)
  • facilitated better than when our stomach is full.

The sharp contrasts
between CHRISTIANITY and
all the >>>NICOLAITANS-LEAD

  • differently-named sects, religions, denominations and "local churches"
  • they insist on calling themselves
  • (characterized by names they assume for themselves and their group, their doctrines, rules, laws, prohibitions, group practices and rituals, leadership, world’s successes and promises, government support and registrations, buildings within which they worship
  • ---- ARE AS TREATED in (>>>T#022) in more detail!!!

HOWEVER,
it is JESUS' WORD in
>>verses 16 and >>17

  • which ought to be THE OBEDIENCE-GUIDING PRINCIPLE
  • for our complete turn to HIM
  • from our last religion
  • --- from The ALL SORTS of LAWS way of living
  • or ---from any hybrid religion thereof as typified
  • by the resulting religion of John’s disciples.

Isn’t this for
you in our time
NOW?


The UNSHRUNK CLOTH

  • signifies THE LIFE of JESUS
  • from HIS birth to HIS death ----
  • from HIS INCARNATION to HIS CRUCIFIXION.

The old garment

  • signifies our former RELIGIOUS LIFE.

To imitate some
of what THE CHRIST did
in HIS lifetime here on earth

  • (like healing and facilitating miracles to happen)
  • ..... while we continue to live a religious life .....

is to put a patch
of unshrunk cloth
to an old garment.

  • The certainty and absolute truth in >>verse 16
  • is that whatever few of JESUS’ examples
  • we bring to mix with our old religious ways
  • pulls away our very lives

and the tear in us worsens
and worsens.

  • This is most difficult for us to accept
  • as happening to us;

yet, THE NON-BELIEVERS in
JESUS THE CHRIST
around us

  • see this reality in us very closely and clearly.
  • No wonder, because of us

THEY are not attracted to CHRISTIANITY.


  • Isn’t this THE TRUTH?
The NEW WINE
in >>verse 17

  • is actually the post ascension life of JESUS
  • as our CHIEF-PRIEST caring for us HIS Church now!!!
  • HE is ridding THE CHURCH of corruptions
  • from within the organizations

by HIS looks and WORDS

  • --- that we may answer HIS CALL FOR OVERCOMING
  • effectively for HIM
  • never by openly challenging THOSE NICOLAITANS 
  • This newness ought to excite and invigorate us;
  • BUT, only if we are able to contain HIM

in the manner of ORGANISMIC
[NOT ORGANIZATIONAL] 
LIVING

  • such as THE CHURCH in Philadelphia then

THE CHURCH in
BROTHERLY LOVE

  • for us NOW !!!!
  • This is THE LIFE THE LORD JESUS refers to

as .... THE FRESH WINESKIN

  • to contain THE NEW LIFE.
  • To put THE LIFE of THE Resurrected CHRIST
  • into our different religious rituals
  • and structured formalities
  • (THE OLD WINESKIN)
  • is to waste the newness, excitement, and vigor of

THE LIFE of
THE Resurrected CHRIST

  • as HE is caring for us now(!)
  • as HIS BRIDE-TO-BE ....... 
  • According to >>verse 17, our lives will burst
  • (if not bursting already).  (>>Hosea 4:6)
JESUS is OUT
OF such CHURCH LIFE
(>>Revelation 3:20)

 and our lives
are getting ruined.

  • THE LIFE of THE Resurrected THE CHRIST
  • can only be in us kung magpaupoy-upoy ta
  • ---- as we behave as “of little strength”
  • (>>Revelation 3:8)

to keep us from being conceited, proud, and combative.

  • We are to “Keep HIS WORD” (>>Revelation 3:8) to keep us from being attracted to the world.

  • To keep us from falling again to DENOMINATIONALISM, we are “not to deny HIS Name” (>>Revelation 3:8).
  • We are not to say anymore “We Baptists,” as if to be John’s disciple has not been proved INCORRECT and rebuked by JESUS.
  • We are to pray in THE CHRIST’s NAME or authority; gather in THE CHRIST’s NAME or authority; and exalt only HIS NAME ..... and not any of these different groups’ bible-related and characters’ names.
  • THEIR churches’ names evidently do not bear HIS authority and ought not find way into our lives or buildings, printed materials, billboards, etc ….
THE name CHRISTIAN
ought to be enough
to distinguish us from
the world….

 we have no need
whatsoever
for other names
we want to be called

 (such as Baptists of whatever
kind, Pentecostals of whatever
kind, Evangelicals,
etc.)....

 to distinguish us as
CHRISTIANS.

  • And we can do
  • all these only as we “keep the word of HIS patience”
  • (>>Revelation 3:10)
  • because as we follow THE LORD JESUS THIS WAY, ....
  • referred to by JESUS in verse 17
  • as THE FRESH WINESKIN
  • .... when we try to love all our brothers and sisters
  • including them in the other DENOMINATIONS
  • and outside of our pastor’s/minister’s/parish priest’s CONTROL
  • .... not all our brothers and sisters in the denominations we find ourselves among
  • ...... most especially our groups’ leaders
  • and their staunch supporters will love us for this.

Yet, this is THE LIFE --


  • (THE FRESH WINESKIN)
  • which ALONE can hold THE NEW WINE
  • The RESURRECTED Jesus THE CHRIST
  • in heaven now!!!  
.... that both
THE NEW WINE
and THE FRESH WINESKIN

 last and get preserved together

 in ETERNITY
in THE NEW JERUSALEM.
