THE TRUTHS

ABOUT THE BAPTISM

WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

• (not “OF” as originally espoused by Pentecostals) and followed blindly by Those Catholic Charismatics !!!)

I.    IT did not happen before that Pentecost Day, of A.D. 33.

A. IT was a promise

• to happen "in the last days"

• (of the Jewish political kingdom

• which history recorded as ended in 70 A.D.) (>>Isaiah 2:2-3)

• THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit

• did not happen prior to that Pentecost Day, A.D. 33.

• All manifestations of The Holy Spirit prior to that date

• must be discerned and understood

• as works of The Spirit Himself.

B. John The Baptist was the first to mention the term

• THE BAPTISM  WITH (not “OF”) The Holy Spirit.

• He referred to IT at some future time

• (>>Matthew 3:11, >>John 1:33).

C.  JESUS, while in the flesh, referred to

• THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit

• on several occasions and

• always reckoned IT as forthcoming.

• HE said IT was not to occur until after

• HE had ascended back to The Father (>>John 16:7, >>7:34-49).

• Therefore, IT was to happen after HIS ascension.

D. Shortly after HIS ascension

• IT was still to happen

• as recorded in >>Acts 1:4, "not many days hence".

• So far (up to that point in time of history)

• THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit has not happened.

Thus far, manifestations or
works of The Holy Spirit
as recorded in Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and John

were not baptizing with
The Holy Spirit

by THE CHRIST

• but works of The Holy Spirit Himself.

II.    IT occurred on that very Day of Pentecost of A.D. 33 (>>Acts 2:1-41)

    A.    >>Acts 1:26-2:1 ~ The apostles tarried in Jerusalem for the promise.
       
         >>Verses 2-4 ~ The Holy Spirit was poured out attested by supernatural signs.

         >>Verses 5-15 ~ The poured out Spirit empowered the 12 (all Galileans, >>verse 7 ) apostles

• to speak in tongues understood by their hearers.

• Also refer to >>Acts 2:14, >>2:43, >>5:12.

The 3,000 whose story
is written in
>>Acts 2:41-43

are not recorded
as doing such.

        >>Verses 16-17a ~ Peter declared that their speaking in tongues was the result of the outpouring of The Spirit as prophesied by Joel.

        >>Verses 17b-21 ~ Peter reminded his audience of Joel's prophecy of THE EVENTS WHICH WERE TO FOLLOW THE  OUTPOURING of THE SPIRIT:

1st -- the miracles in >>Verses 17b-18

2nd -- the judgment in >>Verses 19f

3rd --  the salvation in the name of THE LORD in >>verse 21, and

4th -- the period that started on that very Day of Pentecost of A.D. 33 called invariably as

• "the last days"

• THE CHURCH AGE

• THE NEW COVENANT ERA

• which is to end

• @ THE MOMENT of THE imminent RAPTURE!

        >>Verses 22-36 Peter presented proofs that JESUS was THE LORD in >>verse 21.


       
B.    THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit

was not some
mysterious miracles

but rather

• The ACTUAL-SENDING of The Spirit from heaven

• as PROMISED by THE Ascending JESUS (>>Luke 24:49)

• which sending was also called overwhelming with

• or baptizing with The Holy Spirit (>>Acts 1:4-5).

The recipients of this

one-time sending of
The Holy Spirit

were the 12 apostles

• as they were overwhelmed or baptized with The Holy Spirit

• enabling them

• ---- unlearned as they were for being mere fishermen

• particularly when compared to their long-standing teachers and religious leaders in their time

• ---- to preach for the very first time THE -10-days-already-ascended- JESUS

as THE LORD
and THE CHRIST

• and got 3,000 Jews from every nation then ..... in that very preaching

• by whose obedience to >>Acts 2:36-37 and >>Acts 2:38

• they [their 3,000 HEARERS]

• became indwelt with The Holy Spirit!

THAT promised BAPTISM

for the apostles (only)

• WAS SEEN AND HEARD (>>Acts 2:17, >>33)

• by all present then

.... made possible

the outpouring

of The same Spirit

on all men from thereon

• (including us in our time)

• if .........

• we obey the three (3) do-or-die commands

• recorded in >>John 8:24, >>Luke 13:3, 5 & >>2ndThessalonians 1:8-9 (>>1st Corinthians 15:1-4)

--- which are the very same
commands

to obey in

>>Acts 2:36-38

• which are what are referred to in >>Acts 16:31 (>>Romans 1:5 >>Romans 16:26)

• lending to the truth in >>Acts 5:32

• such commanded baptism

• in the name or by the authority of THE ASCENDED JESUS

• FOR THE FORGIVENESS of every repentant believer’s SINNINGS

• ..... since then when JESUS was officially announced as having already started to sit as OUR LORD & THE CHRIST

• in the right hand of GOD (>>Acts 2:29-35).

THE BAPTISM WITH
The Holy Spirit

• was the unique, single-time, supernatural event

• CAUSED BY THE ASCENDED CHRIST HIMSELF

• and is distinct and entirely different from the repeated miraculous manifestations

• of The Holy Spirit's power

• which power The Holy Spirit many times manifested

• PRIOR TO, ON THE DAY OF, and AFTER

• THAT GREAT UNIQUE DAY OF PENTECOST of A.D. 33

which is the only day

THE BAPTISM WITH

The Holy Spirit occurred.

There is nothing written

in THE BIBLE

that speaks of

THE BAPTISM WITH

The Holy Spirit

occurring after

Pentecost Day, A.D. 33

as duplicating

what happened

and was recorded in

>>Acts 2:1-17.

• Nowhere, after >>Acts 2

• is the action of OUTPOURING by THE ascended CHRIST

• mentioned as a present occurrence

• or as if IT had just occurred.

• On the contrary, the pouring out of The Spirit by JESUS after >>Acts 2:16f

• has been mentioned consistently as

A PAST AND COMPLETED
HAPPENING AND EVENT

• as in >>Acts 2:33 & >>Titus 3:5-6.

The matter of

THE INDWELLING
of The Holy Spirit

• on every repentant believer

• in THE LORDSHIP & THE CHRISTHOOD of JESUS

• on their (JEWS & GENTILES) moment of obedience to the commanded baptism

• after that single-instant outpouring of The Spirit by JESUS

• on that Pentecost Day of A.D. 33

• brings to fulfillment

• the henceforth pouring out of The Spirit ON ALL PEOPLE (>>Acts 2:17)

WHO OBEY (>>Acts 5:32)
for their SALVATION!

III.     IT is the result of THE ASCENDED CHRIST's

• ONE TIME SENDING of THE HOLY SPIRIT=

• all-the-way from heaven (>>John 14:17, >>16:17)

• on that Pentecost Day of A.D. 33

• and was not a performance by The Holy Spirit.

JESUS

direct from heaven

was THE BAPTIZER

(>>Matthew 3:16,

>>Luke 24:49).

• THE INDWELLING of The Holy Spirit

• in this NEW COVENANT times

• for ALL who OBEY

• the first three (3) do-or-die commands in THE NEW COVENANT

• has been made possible

• or is the result of THE ONE-TIME SENDING of THE HOLY SPIRIT from heaven (>>John 14:17, >>16:17)

on THE APOSTLES

[only] on that

Pentecost Day, 33 A.D..

IV.    The Purposes of THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit

    A.     What the purposes could not have been:

          1.    Not to get the apostles into THE CHURCH

• as they have been apostles of THE CHRIST

• even before they were baptized WITH The Holy Spirit

• and as apostles they were in fact

• the very first in THE CHURCH (>>1st Corinthians 12:28, >>Ephesians 2:20).

       2.     Not to give them The Holy Spirit as such

• because they already had The Holy Spirit earlier

• for their new life-living (>>John 20:21-23).

    B.    The real purpose as evident in the promise made by Jesus:
       
         1.    Was to saturate the apostles with the power

• making them the initial batch of official witnesses

• for THE CHRIST starting on that very first day in fact

• that THE CHRIST was first preached (>>Acts 1:8, >>2:31, >>4:33).

       2.    Was to guide them into all the truths

• as they spoke of the things that finally became part

• of what we have now(!) as THE NEW COVENANT

• of our LORD JESUS THE CHRIST.

       3.    Was to bring all things to their remembrance

• so that these truths be included in what they write

• to form part of what we now have

• as THE NEW COVENANT

• of our LORD JESUS THE CHRIST

• (>>John 14:26, >>16:13).

C.    The real purpose as evident in the benefits conferred by Jesus:   

1.    Was to enable the apostles

• to do special signs and wonders

• that THE TRUTHS they preached (>>Acts 2:43, >>5:12, >>Hebrews 2:3-4)

• be believed upon by their hearers

• while THE NEW COVENANT was not as yet

• the whole written book that

• we can now refer to at every opportunity.

In fact, the apostles
HEALED ALL

in ALL their healing cases

(>>Acts 5:12-16,
>>Acts 28:7-9),

precisely for that
confirmation.

2.    Was to make possible for these unlearned men

• to speak in a single utterance

• different languages they have not acquired by learning earlier

• enabling them to carry out the great commission (>>Acts 2:4-11, >>Matthew 28:19-20)

with such unexpected efficacy.

3.    Was to enable them to confer the extraordinary gifts

• (>>1st Corinthians 12:4-11) of The Holy Spirit

• by the laying on of their hands

• (>>Acts 8:17, >>Hebrew 2:3-4), (>>Acts 6:6, >>8:9-17, >>Acts 8:18-19:6, >>Romans 1:11, >>and >>2ndTimothy 1:6).

V.    In our times

we should not mistake

• the works of, the manifestations of, the miraculous signs and wonders of --- The Holy Spirit

• as THE BAPTISM WITH The Holy Spirit.

The former

are the results of

THE LATTER.
